Is Cowork available today?

Not yet. We are sharing the concept and talking with Australian migration professionals about where it could help.

Can registered migration agents use AI?

Yes, with care. OMARA’s guidance on AI says registered migration agents may use AI tools, but:

  • You stay responsible for the accuracy and quality of all advice, whatever tool produced it.
  • Tell clients first that you intend to use AI, and get their written consent before entering their personal information into an AI system.
  • Confidentiality still applies. Sharing client details through AI tools can breach the Code of Conduct.
  • AI is not authorised to give immigration assistance. The Migration Act offence for unauthorised assistance still applies.

Only registered migration agents and Australian legal practitioners may give immigration assistance under the Migration Act. Cowork supports them; it never gives immigration assistance itself.

Cowork is designed around this: it would record each client’s AI consent before their information is used, keep a professional review step on every output, and log what was done. Following the OAIC’s privacy guidance, it would use business AI services under contract, never public AI chat tools. If a matter reaches the Administrative Review Tribunal, its generative AI practice direction also applies. Lawyers also follow their own professional conduct rules.

Does it replace the agent or lawyer?

No. It would help with admin, information review and drafts. Advice, decisions and lodgement stay with you.

Which Australian laws will it follow?

All Australian laws that apply to it, including the Privacy Act 1988, the Migration Act 1958 and the Code of Conduct, the Australian Consumer Law, the Cyber Security Act 2024 and the Spam Act 2003. Every solution also follows the relevant security and privacy standards, including the ASD Essential Eight, the ASD Information Security Manual, NIST SP 800-63B for sign-in and the OWASP Top 10 for web and API security. No. Integrations would depend on the tools your practice already uses.

AI requests go only to the AI provider you approve, and AI credits are billed on usage, as above.
